Salvador Pereira was born in the  provincial city of  Cajamarca, Peru, in the  Andean crest region. At the age of four his family followed the population shift to live in the culturally infused capital city of Lima. The youngest of 10 children, Salvador was born into a family especially endowed in the arts. At the age of 20, this self-taught painter joined four well-known older brothers who had  established themselves in the Peruvian art scene.

Salvador made his exhibition debut in Lima in 1966 at the age of 23 and then continued to exhibit in Peru and abroad almost every year from 1966 to 1982. In 1984 Pereira moved to Washington, DC, where he continued to produce and show in places such as the Martin Luther King Library and the Peruvian Embassy. In 2004, Pereira moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he is  bringing to fruition a lifetime of ideas. His works are in collections in Colombia, Cuba, Argentina, Switzerland, Peru, and the US.
